Pop of Color: Eye Makeup Look #2

April 07, 2014

Today I'm comin' at you with my second "Pop of Color" makeup look (see the first look here!).

Since I have brown/hazel eyes, I tend to keep my experimentation to greens and purples since these shades enhance brown-colored eyes.

For this look, the parts that pop are the taupe eye shadow in the crease and the dark purple / eggplant eye liner gel on the upper lash line.

I changed up just a few products from the last look since many of my makeup items for my lashes, eyebrows, face, etc. often stay the same. Check out that post for a description of what I used on my face and brows.

Lips:
I went for a very neutral shade on my lips since I already used some color on my eyes. I used Dior 333 Nude and for me, this is the perfect "nude" shade since it has a touch of rose in it and doesn't leave me looking like a mannequin.

Eyes:
I primed my eyelids with MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly and added a thin layer of Estee Lauder ShadowCreme in Ivory Lace on top. To make my lid color a bit more pinky than ivory, I added MAC All That Glitters on top using my ring finger. I gently patted the shadow onto my lid to make it more opaque.

With a fluffy crease brush I worked MAC Wedge into my crease to create a natural crossover from the lid color to the crease color. Then, using a more defined crease brush, I slowly started applying MAC Satin Taupe, a taupe with silver shimmer, on the outer corner of my crease, working it inwards. How dark you make it is all up to you - just remember to blend.

Now, time for the gel liner. I chose to use Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel in #74, which is a deep purple / eggplant shade. You can also see this in my Inglot haul back in December 2013.

I applied this gel liner with an angled liner brush and attempted a gently winged-out line. I think it come out pretty good considering I almost never do a winged liner ;-)

This gel is quite "wet" so it falls into the creases in your skin very easily. This makes it pretty difficult to create a straight, solid line. But, all in all, it's a great shade and the liner stays put all day long. No smudges!

Lastly, I add some of Satin Taupe to my bottom lash line and finish off the eyes with some mascara. At the moment I'm (still) obsessed with L'Oréal Mega Volume Collagène mascara.

I've got two more purple products which I use on a regular basis which are worth sharing:
MAC Pearlglide Intense Eyeliner in Designer Purple, an "iridescent violet", pictured below on top
and Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Delinquent, pictured below on bottom.
Both of these eyeliners are nice and creamy and apply beautifully. They're also a dark purple / eggplant shade so they look quite neutral paired with browns/golds etc.

So there you go :) A "pop of color" eye makeup look using purple/eggplant shades. Unfortunately, the eggplant gel eye liner doesn't show up very well on camera. Here's an iPhone shot of my makeup where I also used a filter to lighten it up. Here you can see the color of the liner much better.

I hope you enjoyed this look and I hope to do one more Pop of Color eye look! Maybe I'll venture into using a blue shade? Oh man, I'm scared already...
