Loving Lately: Daily Makeup Products

February 07, 2014

I have been using quite a few products religiously lately. I thought I'd share a few of them today :)

And funny thing is, two of the products above are old rekindled love affairs - haha! Can you guess which ones?

Yup, you (maybe) guessed right...I used this Dream Matte Mousse foundation A LOT when I was in my teens leading up to my early twenties (I'm 25 so it's really not that long ago, but you get my drift). At some point I started trying out new foundations, venturing into liquid foundations and various brands.

I've been having horrible skin lately and the latest liquid foundation which I was using since November (Clarins Extra-Comfort, blog post HERE) was just not working out for me. I liked it in the beginning since it was higher coverage than the Clarins Ever Matte, which I was using before, but the Extra-Comfort was just too heavy for my skin. It came off at the slightest touch, came off in patches when I used a blot sheet and made me a little too oily.

One day, my Extra-Comfort foundation was dwindling down to the last few uses so I decided I'd find a new product to use and while roaming the drugstore beauty aisles I laid eyes on the Dream Matte Mousse and thought, what the heck, I'm going for it. And it's so much cheaper too!

So far, I've been loving it. It has enough coverage, easy to apply (I like using my fingertips but I used to use a sponge back in the day, maybe I'll try the beauty blender?) and it's definitely not too heavy for my skin, keeping it nice and matte. I do need to blot my skin a few times a day but the shin doesn't get too excessive and it's more of a glow than a dirty-looking shine so I'm happy with that.

This product is probably an old love for many of you - as it is for me. I was roaming through my makeup drawers the same day I bought the Dream Matte Mousse and I came across a few products I had put aside a while back. Since this powder still has a lot of product left, I thought I'd get back into using it to finish it up. And I luuuurve it. It's really working well with the mousse foundation and gives just enough coverage without looking too cakey. (I'm not sure if Medium Plus is a tad too light for me, I might swatch the shade Medium and see if that matches a bit better.)

I basically got suckered into buying this mascara (twice) because of a) beautiful packaging and b) Fleur de Force was using it and if she uses it, it has to be good...haha... I'm a sucker, I know.

So anyways, this was my second time purchasing it and I still really like it. It has a very peculiar wand which you can see a great photo of in the Lancôme link above. If you hold it one way, the wand looks round, but then you roll the wand halfway around and it's flat.

I start by holding the round part of the brush to the bottom of my lashes, do a little wiggle, and whilst moving the brush upwards through my lashes I turn it to the the flat side, which dispenses more product onto my lashes. It works really nicely.

Last but not least, I've been using these two lip products a lot lately. I really like the consistency of the L'Oréal Caresse lip glosses - they sort of dry out (but not dry dry) and stay put while staying super shiny. I've learned the correct way to apply these is to put one coat, wait, put a second coat, wait, and put a third coat if you wish. It's important to let the coats dry before adding additional coats.
These are known to be dupes for the YSL Glossy Stains. I actually own a YSL version but I haven't used it enough to be able to compare the two.

The KIKO Super Gloss is a very nice, nothing-out-of-the-ordinary gloss. It's not too sticky, stays put for quite a while and the shade Classic Pink goes perfectly with the Lolita stain. A very shiny, your-lips-but-better shade that you can pair with a ton of different eye makeup looks.

There you have it, some products which I've been Loving Lately and actually using daily!

Stay tuned for a part 2 :)
