From May 3 - 10 I took a trip to Warsaw, Poland with my parents. They both come from here and I've  come here multiple times to visit family and friends. This place always feels very familiar to me: the delicious food, the language and the few family members and childhood friends of my parents' who we still see every time we visit.

Here are some photos of our trip :) (a mix of iPhone and DSLR camera pics)

This is the Palac Kultury i Nauki (Palace of Culture and Science) which is in the city and located directly across from a long strip of shops (Sephora, H&M, TK Maxx, etc.). It's the tallest building in Poland, built in 1952 until 1955 and it was originally a gift from the Soviet Union to the people of Poland. After destalinization the dedication to Stalin was revoked and Stalin's name was removed from the building. There are many people in Warsaw who don't like this building and would love to have it torn down, because of the history of it coming from the Soviet Union.

After a day of getting stuff done for the renewal of my Polish passport and some shopping, we met up with my uncle and he took us to a very cool restaurant called Oberza Pod Czerwonym Wieprzem (the Inn Under The Red Hog). The theme of the restaurant is connected to the history of its location, where the first Polish communist/socialist movement was born. The restaurant was named after the communist leaders who frequented the inn. Now, the restaurant takes you on a humorous trip back to communist times and there's a huge painting of some of the world's communist leaders: Fidel Castro, Brezniev, Gierek, Honnecker, Causescu and more. (^My dad and I are in the photo above.)

And the food was delicious, as usual! On the left you can see Pierogi with cabbage and mushroom filling and on the right you see Placki Ziemniaczane (potato pancakes) with a creamy mushroom sauce. Yum!

One day, after once again taking care of getting my passport renewed, my dad and I went for a walk through the city center of Warsaw and for a delicious meal of pierogi.

This statue and the building below are situated on the Plac Zamkowy (Castle Square) in Warsaw. The building below is the Royal Castle, the former residence of Polish monarchs.

This is the view from Castle Square where you can see the National Stadium of Warsaw which was built in 2008 until 2011. Some of the matches of the UEFA Euro 2012 were hosted here. You can actually buy tickets and go take a look at the inside of the stadium. I'll have to do that next time I'm in Warsaw.

The photos above and below are of the Rynek Starego Miasta (the Old Town Market Place). It was ruined by the German army and after World War II it was restored to its prewar appearance.

These two photos are of the Barbakan Warszawski (Warsaw Barbican). It is one of few remaining relics of the network of historic fortifications that once encircled Warsaw.

I hope you enjoyed my photos from Warsaw! Of course, there was much more food and shopping that I didn't photograph, but I think I captured the more beautiful parts of the trip :)
