Clarins Extra-Comfort Foundation: Test & Review

November 13, 2013

I'm really into trying out various foundations at the moment. I've had some crazy breakouts in my chin area (you damn hormones!) and this has moved me to find a better full-coverage foundation.

In my last foundation post, I tried out the YSL Youth Liberator foundation. I liked it, but I feel like the coverage wasn't as high as I expected it to be.

At the moment, and for the past few months, I've been using the Clarins Ever Matte SPF 15 Skin Balancing Foundation in the shade 109 Wheat. I really like this foundation as it's light-weight, keeps my skin looking fairly matte and it has SPF, which is a must. This is a medium-coverage foundation so it leaves your skin looking quite natural.

I stopped by the Clarins counter in Globus yesterday and picked up a sample of the Clarins Extra-Comfort SPF 15 Foundation in the shade 110 (which I don't see on the website). I've linked the Swiss website since I can't find this foundation on the American Clarins site - has this not come out in the States?

Anyways, this is a full-coverage foundation for all skin types and has an anti-ageing formula which intensively hydrates and nourishes the skin.

I heard about this foundation on the Buy Now, Blog Later blog, where she gave this foundation a rave review and called it "OUTSTANDING". So obviously, I got curious, gimme a break...

5:15am application:
I applied this foundation this morning after using a cleanser, toner, Clarins Truly Matte Ultra-Matte Rebalancing moisturizer for oily skin and  Smashbox Blemish Control Primer. I applied the foundation with my fingers to my forehead, cheeks and chin in small dots. The product feels very creamy and subsequently quite heavy - I'm guessing one should use a light hand when applying. I then used my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush to buff the foundation into my skin, working in small circles, from the middle of my face outward. And don't forgot to apply the product past the jawline to avoid wierd foundation lines between the face and neck! I then set the foundation in place with my favorite powder at the moment, the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour SPF 15, which I have in the shade N. 20. Gorgeous packaging, gorgeous product, doesn't get cakey, sets the foundation - I love it.

Since I'm testing out this foundation all day at work, I'll check back later with an update :)

11:00am check-in:
We have horrible, bright lighting in the bathroom at work which doesn't really make anyone look pretty, but when I checked in the mirror the foundation still looked great. I got a bit shiny in my T-zone, per usual, which I just blotted with a sheet of blot paper. Otherwise, it seems that the foundation stays in place nicely and doesn't crease on the forehead or around the mouth. I'm likin' it thus far!

4:10pm check-in:
My forehead and cheeks on the sides of my nose got quite shiny, but a quick blot fixed that right up. (I'm afraid that sitting in a closed office all day is not too great for my skin and makes it shinier that it usually is. I try to keep a window open at all times, but sometimes it gets too cold, ya know how it is.) Otherwise the foundation is holding up really nicely. No patchiness, no dry areas around my blemishes where I applied a bit more product, no cakiness or creasing - me likey.

6:30pm check-in:
So, this will be my last check-in since I'm going to take off my makeup soon. The foundation held up really well. Obviously, if I were going anywhere tonight, I'd need to touch up the foundation and powder but, let's face it, I've had it on for 13 hours so it's performed really well in my opinion. A few blotting sessions throughout the day without touch-ups and it's going strong.

Conclusion:
I'm really happy with this foundation so far. I definitely have enough in my sample container for at least two more uses (the lady was veeery generous) so I'll definitely use it again tomorrow and Friday. I have to admit though, I'm pretty close to buying it. I think this would make a good winter foundation since it's thicker and more hydrating than my Ever Matte foundation. I still have another YSL foundation to test out but I guess we'll see what happens!

Hope you enjoyed this post :) Have a great day/night!
